About Beas River
- Location and Importance: The Beas River flows through Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, and is one of the five rivers that give Punjab its name.
- Historical Significance: It marked the eastern boundary of Alexander the Great’s invasion of India in 326 BC.
- Origin and Course
- Originates at Rohtang Pass in the western Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh, at an elevation of 14,308 ft (4,361 m).
- Flows south through the Kullu Valley Mandi, into the Kangra Valley, then enters Punjab, flowing southwest to meet the Sutlej River at Harike.

- Total length: 470 km (290 miles)
- Drainage basin: 20,303 sq km (7,839 sq miles)
- Major Tributaries: Key tributaries include Bain, Banganga, Luni, Uhal, along with Banner, Chakki, Gaj, Harla, Mamuni, Parvati, Patlikuhlal, Sainj, Suketi, and Tirthan.
- Geographical Contribution: The river shapes the scenic and fertile Kullu and Kangra valleys, known globally for their beauty.
