About World Ocean Day 

• First proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and officially recognized by the UN in 2008. 
• It is observed annually to promote ocean awareness and protection. 
• Theme for 2025: “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us”
