Why in News? 

  • The SVAMITVA Scheme (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) is celebrating its 5th anniversary on April 24, 2025. The scheme was launched by the Prime Minister of India on National Panchayati Raj Day in 2020. 

About SVAMITVA Scheme 

  • Nature 
    • It is a Central Sector Scheme. 
    • It is a joint initiative involving the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, State Panchayati Raj Departments, State Revenue Departments and the Survey of India. 
  • Objective 
    • To drive economic transformation in rural India. 
    • To provide property owners in village Abadi areas with a Record of Rights, enabling them to use their land as a financial asset for loans and other financial benefits. 

 Key Features 

  • Legal Ownership: Issuance of property cards to residents of Abadi areas. 
  • Dispute Resolution: Reduces land conflicts through accurate mapping. 
  • Digital Governance: Promotes transparent and tech-enabled rural land governance. 
  • Village Planning: Supports Gram Panchayat Development Plans via GIS data.
