ISRO's GSLV-F16 is scheduled to launch the ISRO-NASA joint satellite NISAR on July 30, 2025.
About NISAR
- Joint Mission: The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite is a joint Earth observation mission developed jointly by ISRO and NASA under a partnership signed in 2014.
- Launch Site: It will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh, India.
- Launch Vehicle: The satellite will be placed into low Earth orbit using ISRO’s GSLV Mark II.
- Global Coverage: NISAR will scan the entire Earth every 12 days, providing regular and uniform data.
- Main Objectives: It will monitor changes in ecosystems, ice sheets, vegetation, sea levels, groundwater and track natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and landslides.
- Mission Duration: The satellite has a baseline mission duration of three years.
- Estimated Cost: The total estimated mission cost is $1.5 billion.
