National Science Day 2024

  • Annually, on 28th February, we commemorate National Science Day to pay tribute to the groundbreaking discovery of the 'Raman Effect' by Indian scientist and physician C V Raman.
  • This occasion serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions science has made to society and aims to increase awareness of its profound importance.
  • The Raman Effect was discovered on 28th February 1928.
  • The Raman Effect refers to the phenomenon where a light beam passing through a transparent substance scatter in a manner that unveils intricate details about the substance's molecular composition.
  • The theme for National Science Day 2024 is 'Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat'. It focuses on promoting scientific skills and innovations.

India to Own Space Station by 2035

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's ambition to develop its own space station by 2035.
  • It was during his speech at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • This endeavour is geared towards enabling enhanced exploration of the cosmos.

Prime Minister Inaugurates Bharat Tex 2024

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Bharat Tex 2024, marking one of the largest-ever global textile events hosted in the country, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
  • The Prime Minister also emphasised the significance of the event taking place simultaneously at two of India's largest exhibition centers, Bharat Mandapam and Yasho Bhoomi.
  • He also hailed the event as a prime example of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, showcasing diverse textile traditions from across the nation.

India-Germany High Defence Committee meeting in Berlin

  • Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane collaborated as co-chair in the India-Germany High Defence Committee (HDC) meeting held in Berlin on February 27, 2024.
  • Alongside was Mr. Benedikt Zimmer, the State Secretary of the German Ministry of Defence.
  • The meeting emphasised on enhancing defence cooperation as a fundamental component of the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany.
  • Both parties exchanged perspectives on the regional security landscape, explored potential joint exercises in the Indo-Pacific region with Germany, and deliberated on prospective defence industrial projects and initiatives.
  • They underscored the importance of fostering closer defence ties and promoting collaboration between the defence industries of both nations.

World Gold Council Appoints Sachin Jain new India CEO
