The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on 21st June. 

About International Day of Yoga 2025 

  • Marks the 11th International Day of Yoga, celebrated annually on 21st June. 
  • Aims to spread awareness about yoga's physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. 
  • Led by PM Narendra Modi from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. 
  • Over 1 lakh locations across India to participate in Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) sessions. 
  • Theme for 2025: "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" 
  • Organised by the Ministry of AYUSH. 
  • Major events include Yogamahotsav, Yoga Sangam, Yoga Bandhan, and Yoga Maha Kumbh. 
  • Visakhapatnam set a new Guinness World Record for the largest yoga gathering at a single venue, with over three lakh participants during the 11th International Day of Yoga. 

Historical Background 

  • Proposed by PM Modi at the UNGA in 2014. 
  • First celebrated on 21st June 2015. 
  • The UN resolution was co-sponsored by 177 countries. 
  • Chosen date marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
