CUET UG 2027 Documents Required: What to Get Ready Now, What to Make After 31 March

« Previous Next »
12-Oct-2026 | Drishti CUET

Most students think of CUET as one exam. For your documents, it is actually four separate checkpoints. Your papers are checked when you fill the CUET UG 2027 application form, again at the exam centre, again when a DU college approves your allocated seat on CSAS, and one final time when you walk into the college for physical verification with your originals.

A mismatch caught at any of these four points can cost you something different: a rejected form, a cancelled exam, a rejected seat, or a cancelled admission after you thought you were in. Ask any senior who went through CSAS, and a good number will have a story about running between offices to fix a single letter in a name.

The good news: almost every document problem is fixable if you start in October–December. This guide breaks down the CUET UG 2027 documents required by stage, so you know exactly what to get done now and what you should deliberately wait on.

Quick answer: CUET UG 2027 documents required at a glance

Everyone needs five things at the CUET application stage: Aadhaar, Class 10 certificate, photograph, signature, and a working email ID and mobile number. The two certificates with a date condition are OBC-NCL and EWS: for DU, both must be issued after 31 March 2027.

Section 1: Personal Details for the CUET 2027 Application Form

These are the details you enter and upload while filling the CUET 2027 application form. Once they are in, DU's CSAS portal pulls several of them automatically: your name, date of birth, category, photograph, signature, mobile number and email are auto-integrated from your CUET application, and DU does not entertain requests to change them later. Whatever you enter in January follows you all the way to your college.

Name: Match Aadhaar, Class 10 and Birth Certificate Letter-for-Letter

Your name in the CUET form must match your Aadhaar card, and your Aadhaar must match your Class 10 certificate and birth certificate exactly. NTA's 2026 advisory specifically asked candidates to make sure name, date of birth, photograph, address and father's name on Aadhaar match the Class 10 certificate, and to fix mismatches before applying.

Common traps:

  • Prefixes: If Aadhaar says "Mr. Shashank" and your marksheet says "Shashank," get the "Mr." removed from Aadhaar.
  • Single letters: "Bharat" on one document and "Barat" on another is a mismatch. So is an extra initial.
  • Parents' names: Your father's and mother's names must be spelled identically across Aadhaar, birth certificate and the Class 10 marksheet.

DU's CSAS rules also require that the name on a reservation certificate matches the name on your school board certificates and in your CUET application, and the same goes for your parents' names. A spelling difference on a caste certificate is a reason for a college to reject an allocated seat.

Aadhaar: Update Mobile Number and Address Now

Get your latest mobile number and current address updated on Aadhaar before January. Corrections at Aadhaar centres take time, and you don't want to be waiting on a UIDAI update while the CUET window is open.

Photograph and Signature Specifications

Photograph: A recent, clear passport-style photo against a plain, light background, with your face occupying most of the frame. No selfies against a wall, no caps, no dark glasses. In the 2026 cycle, the photo had to be a JPG/JPEG between 10 KB and 200 KB.

Signature: Sign on plain white paper (a black pen scans best) and crop tightly to the signature. The signature file limit is smaller than the photo limit. Confirm the exact range in the CUET UG 2027 Information Bulletin when it releases.

Both of these are auto-fetched by DU later, so a blurry photo uploaded in January is the photo your college sees in July.

Email ID and Mobile Number: Treat Them Like Your Admit Card

All official communication (confirmation pages, admit card alerts, OTPs for CSAS registration) goes to the email and mobile number you give in the CUET form. DU's CSAS registration itself requires an OTP sent to the email or mobile you entered on the CUET portal.

Three rules:

  1. Create a dedicated email ID and write the password down somewhere safe.
  2. Add a recovery phone number to that email account, yours or a parent's.
  3. Use a mobile number that will stay recharged and in use until at least August 2027.

Section 2: Marksheets — Passed vs Appearing Status

What you upload depends on your Class 12 status.

  • Class 10 certificate/marksheet: Required for everyone at the application stage. It is also your proof of date of birth.
  • Already passed Class 12 (droppers / repeaters): Select "Passed" in the form and upload your Class 12 marksheet while applying.
  • Appearing in Class 12 boards in 2027: Select "Appearing." You do not upload a Class 12 marksheet in the CUET form. You will upload it later, during DU CSAS and college admissions in June–July, once board results are out.

Who this matters most for: If you're in Class 12 right now and preparing for boards and CUET together, the marksheet you upload in July will be checked against the subjects you mapped in CSAS, so your board subjects and CUET subjects need to line up from day one. That's exactly the student our FUSION Batch is built for: Class 12 students preparing for boards and CUET UG 2027 at the same time.

Section 3: CUET Category Certificate 2027 — The Most Confusing Part

This is where the most students get stuck. Here is what's certain, and what to watch.

Rule 1: It Must Be From the Competent Authority, in the Prescribed Format

A category certificate is only valid if it is issued by the authority empowered to issue it. For example, OBC-NCL and EWS certificates are typically issued by the Tehsildar, SDM or an equivalent revenue officer, depending on your state. A certificate from the wrong office (say, a block-level functionary for an SC/ST certificate) can be rejected even if your claim is genuine.

Use the format prescribed for central government admissions. DU publishes the formats in the annexure of its CSAS document every year. Download it and take it to the issuing office so the certificate is made in the right format the first time.

Rule 2: OBC-NCL Must Be Central List, Not State List

Your caste must appear in the Central List of OBCs for you to claim OBC-NCL reservation in CUET-based central university admissions. Many castes are on a state OBC list but not the central one. Before you do anything else, check the central list maintained by the National Commission for Backward Classes. If your caste is not on it, you cannot claim OBC-NCL reservation at DU, and you will be considered under the unreserved category.

NTA's 2026 advisory was blunt about this: only central-government-format category certificates are accepted for CUET, not state-format ones.

Rule 3: For DU, OBC-NCL and EWS Certificates Must Be Issued After 31 March

This is the date rule that catches people. DU requires OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued in the current financial year. For the 2026 admissions, that meant certificates issued after 31 March 2026. Following the same pattern, students seeking DU admission in 2027 should plan on OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued after 31 March 2027. A certificate from December 2026 or even February 2027 will not satisfy DU.

SC, ST and PwBD certificates do not carry this financial-year condition in the same way, but they must still be valid and issued by the competent authority.

The Conflict: CUET Form in January, DU Wants a Certificate From April

Here's the timing problem. You fill the CUET form in January 2027. DU wants an OBC-NCL/EWS certificate made after 31 March 2027. So what do you upload in January?

  • NTA doesn't prescribe a DU-style 31 March cut-off for the CUET form. Whether NTA asks you to upload a category certificate at the application stage has varied from cycle to cycle, so check the 2027 Information Bulletin.
  • If you already hold a valid category certificate (most droppers will, from last year), select your actual category and upload it if asked.
  • Then get a fresh OBC-NCL or EWS certificate made after 31 March 2027 for DU CSAS. Your old one will not be accepted by DU.

Don't Apply as General Planning to Switch Categories at DU

You may have heard that a reserved-category student can fill CUET as General and switch category during DU counselling. Don't plan on this. DU's CSAS(UG)-2026 document lists category among the fields auto-integrated from your CUET application and states that DU will not entertain requests to change that information.

The safe sequence is:

  1. Select your actual category in the CUET UG 2027 form.
  2. Use a valid existing certificate if one is asked for at that stage.
  3. Get a fresh OBC-NCL / EWS certificate after 31 March 2027 for CSAS.
  4. If you made a mistake in category, use NTA's correction window. Don't carry the error to DU.

One protective detail from DU's rules: if a reserved-category seat gets rejected because of a problem with your category certificate, you can still be considered for unreserved seats in later rounds as per your merit and eligibility. So a document problem doesn't automatically end your DU journey, but it can cost you the seat you wanted.

PwBD Candidates: Certificate Needed at the Application Stage

If you're applying under PwBD, keep your disability certificate (UDID-based, where applicable) ready before the CUET form opens. It decides accommodations like compensatory time and a scribe in the exam itself. DU also does not allow a candidate who chose PwBD in CUET to change that category in CSAS, because PwBD benefits were already used in the exam.

If You're a Dropper

You already know how this works in practice: last year's certificate is fine for the CUET form, but DU will want a fresh one after 31 March. Plan the reissue now so it doesn't land in the same weeks as your revision. Our CAMPUS Batch is for repeat aspirants taking another shot at CUET UG 2027.

Section 4: Other Documents (Not Needed for the CUET Form)

Transfer certificate, migration certificate, character certificate and gap certificate are not part of the CUET UG 2027 application. They come up at the college admission stage, and requirements vary by university and even by college. Many DU colleges don't ask for all of them, some do, and universities like BHU ask at their own admission stage.

  • Droppers: Keep these ready, because your school-leaving was a year ago and some of these can take time to obtain.
  • Class 12 students: Collect them after your board exams, before you report to college.

Section 5: The Four Checkpoints Where Your Documents Get Checked

A mismatch at any one of the four checkpoints costs something different, from a rejected form to a cancelled admission.

Checkpoint

When

What can go wrong

1. CUET application

January 2027 (expected)

Name mismatch, wrong photo/signature, wrong category → rejected form

2. Exam centre

May 2027 (expected)

ID doesn't match admit card → entry refused

3. College approval on CSAS

June–August 2027

Invalid or outdated certificate, subject mapping errors → allocated seat rejected

4. Physical verification

At reporting

Original differs from uploaded copy → admission cancelled

DU's CSAS rules list "not in possession of valid document for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS category" as one of the explicit grounds for a college to reject an allocated seat, and they make every admission provisional until originals are physically verified.

Section 6: Your CUET UG 2027 Document Timeline

Start in October–December 2026, and keep 1 April 2027 as your reminder date for the certificates that have to wait.

Final Word

None of these documents are hard to get. What makes them dangerous is timing: finding a mismatch in July, when every office in your district has a queue of students with the same problem. Use this quarter to fix what can be fixed now, and set a reminder for 1 April 2027 for anything that has to wait.

FAQs on CUET UG 2027 Documents Required

1. What documents are required for the CUET UG 2027 application form?

You'll need an Aadhaar card with updated details, Class 10 certificate/marksheet, a recent photograph and signature in JPG format, an active email ID and mobile number, your Class 12 marksheet if you've already passed, and category/PwBD certificates if you're claiming reservation. Confirm the final list in the CUET UG 2027 Information Bulletin.

2. Do I need my Class 12 marksheet to apply for CUET 2027?

Only if you've already passed Class 12. If you're appearing in 2027 boards, select "Appearing" and you'll upload the Class 12 marksheet later during DU CSAS and college admissions.

3. When should I get my OBC-NCL certificate made for DU admission 2027?

After 31 March 2027. DU requires OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued in the current financial year, so a certificate made before April 2027 won't be accepted for DU.

4. Can I fill the CUET form as General and change my category at DU CSAS?

Don't plan on it. DU's CSAS document auto-pulls category from your CUET application and states it won't entertain change requests. Fill your actual category in CUET and use NTA's correction window for any errors.

5. Is a state OBC certificate valid for CUET UG 2027?

No. You need a central-format OBC-NCL certificate, and your caste must be on the Central List of OBCs.

6. What if my name is different on Aadhaar and my Class 10 marksheet?

Get it corrected now, before the January 2027 application window. Even one extra letter or a prefix like "Mr." counts as a mismatch, and DU requires names on reservation certificates to match your board certificates and CUET application.

7. What is the photo and signature size for the CUET form?

In the 2026 cycle, the photograph had to be a JPG/JPEG between 10 KB and 200 KB, and the signature file had a smaller limit. Check the CUET UG 2027 Information Bulletin for the confirmed 2027 specifications.

8. Are migration and character certificates needed for the CUET application?

No. These are asked for at the college admission stage, and requirements vary by university and college.
