How to Prepare for CUET 2027 With Class 12 Board Exams: A Month-by-Month Plan (October 2026 – May 2027)

Yes, you can prepare for CUET 2027 alongside your Class 12 board exams, and for most students it is the only realistic way to do it. CUET domain papers are built on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus, so board preparation already covers most of the content. What boards do not train you for is the format: 50 compulsory MCQs in 60 minutes, with a mark deducted for every wrong answer. A good CUET 2027 preparation strategy for board students does not add a second syllabus. It adds a second way of being tested on the same syllabus.

This guide sets out a month-by-month CUET 2027 study plan, running from this week (October 2026) to the CUET exam window, plus a daily timetable and a subject-wise approach.

CUET 2027 and Board Exams 2027: Key Dates at a Glance Neither CBSE nor NTA has announced 2027 dates yet. The 2026 cycle is the best available reference:

The number that matters: in 2026, about one month separated the last CBSE Class 12 paper from the first CUET paper. If 2027 follows the same rhythm, that month is your only full-time CUET window. Everything before it has to be built around boards.

For the latest confirmed dates, eligibility and registration details, see our continuously updated guide: CUET UG 2027: Exam Date, Registration, Eligibility & Syllabus.

Can You Prepare for CUET 2027 and Class 12 Boards Together?

Yes. Treating them as two separate exams is the most common reason students run out of time. Boards and CUET test largely the same Class 12 content. What separates them is how you are tested:

  • Boards reward explanation: written answers, steps, diagrams, presentation.
  • CUET rewards recognition under time pressure: picking the correct option quickly and accurately, and knowing when to skip.

So the question is not "how do I study two syllabi?" It is "how do I practise one syllabus in two formats?"

CUET 2027 pattern will be confirmed in NTA's Information Bulletin. The table reflects the 2026 cycle.

The three gaps boards won't close for you

  1. Speed. 50 questions in 60 minutes gives you about 72 seconds per question, including reading time. Boards never make you work at that pace. Speed comes only from timed practice, not from more revision.
  1. Accuracy under negative marking. A wrong answer costs 1 mark and a right one earns 5. If you can confidently eliminate even one option, an educated guess is usually worth attempting. A question you've barely read is not. Boards never teach this skill.
  1. Papers outside your board syllabus. If your target course requires the General Aptitude Test (GAT), you are preparing for a paper that no board class covers: general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning and basic quantitative aptitude. The language paper (usually English) is heavily reading-comprehension based, which board English only partly prepares you for.

Who this plan is hardest for: students trying to run two kinds of preparation on one calendar with no external structure. That student is who Drishti CUET's FUSION Batch is built for: Class 12 students preparing for board exams and CUET 2027 together.

CUET 2027 Preparation Timeline: Month-by-Month Plan for Class 12 Students

Phase 1 — October to November 2026: Lock your subjects, build the MCQ habit

This is your highest-value CUET period. Board pressure is still moderate, and nothing you build now gets wasted.

  • Finalise your 5 CUET subjects this month, not in January. Pick them against the programme-college combinations you're targeting, not against what feels easy. Many students discover in January that their target course needs a subject they haven't prepared. See: CUET 2027 Subject Combinations for DU, BHU, Jamia, AU and AMU.
  • Follow the chapter-closing rule. Whenever you finish a chapter for boards, close it the same week with one timed set of 25 MCQs on that chapter, taking 30 minutes. This is the core habit of the whole plan. It turns board revision into CUET practice without any extra syllabus.
  • Start 20 minutes of daily reading for the language paper: an editorial, a long-form article, or a passage set. RC speed builds slowly and can't be crammed.
  • If your course needs GAT: two sessions a week, one on quantitative aptitude/reasoning and one on general awareness.

Phase 2 — December 2026: Pre-boards first, CUET kept warm

Pre-board exams are a rehearsal for the real board papers, so they get priority.

  • Cut CUET work to 3–4 timed MCQ sets a week, continuing the chapter-closing rule.
  • Use each pre-board paper as a diagnostic. If a chapter costs you marks in a descriptive paper, it will cost you more in a 72-seconds-per-question paper.
  • Keep the daily reading going, even at 15 minutes.

Phase 3 — January 2027: Registration month (if 2027 follows 2026)

In 2026, CUET registration opened on 3 January and closed on 30 January. Expect the 2027 form to arrive during your practicals and pre-board season.

  • Keep documents ready before the notification: Class 10 and 12 details, ID, a recent photograph and signature in the format the Information Bulletin specifies.
  • Submit the subjects you finalised in October. Don't make subject decisions on the registration form.
  • Take your first full-length CUET mock in your strongest subject: 50 questions, 60 minutes, under exam conditions. You need a baseline score before boards begin.

Phase 4 — February to early April 2027: Board exams, minimum CUET dose

Board marks matter in their own right. Some universities and programmes set Class 12 eligibility requirements. Don't sacrifice board performance for CUET during these weeks.

The minimum effective CUET dose:

  • The same-evening mock. On the evening of each board paper, or the next morning, take one 60-minute CUET mock in that same subject. Your content knowledge for that subject peaks on that day, so the mock tests the CUET format without needing extra revision.
  • Daily reading drops to 10 minutes, but don't stop it.
  • GAT, if you need it: one light session a week, no new topics.

Phase 5 — Post-boards to the CUET exam window: The ~4-week sprint

This is the only full-time CUET period you'll get. Plan it before boards begin so you don't lose the first week to "rest".

  • Week 1 — Diagnose. One full mock per subject. List every chapter where you lost marks. Use errors, not scores, as your study plan.
  • Week 2–3 — Repair and rotate. Mornings: weak-chapter repair, using the NCERT text first and then MCQs on it. Afternoons: one full-length mock a day, rotating subjects. Evenings: mock analysis. Analysis time should at least equal mock time.
  • Final week — Consolidate. Previous year question papers, light revision, no new material. Shift your sleep schedule to match your exam shift timing once your admit card arrives.

Daily Timetable for CUET and Board Preparation Together

Time block

School day (Oct–Dec)

Holiday / Sunday

Morning (before school / 7–9 am)

Language-paper reading (20 min) + one board chapter revision

Full-length CUET mock (60 min) + analysis (60 min)

After school (4:30–6:30 pm)

Board study: new chapter or school assignments

Board study: 2 chapters

Evening (7–8 pm)

Chapter-closing MCQ set (30 min) + error log (15 min)

GAT or weak-subject MCQs (if applicable)

Night (8:30–10 pm)

Board revision / written practice

Error-log revision + light reading

CUET-specific time

~65–75 min

~3–4 hrs

Treat this as a template, not a prescription. What matters is the ratio: on school days, CUET work should take about an hour and come out of chapters you are already studying for boards.

Subject-wise CUET 2027 Strategy for Board Students

Domain subjects

NCERT Class 12 is your primary text. For CUET, read it differently. Boards reward you for explaining a concept. CUET checks whether you can recognise it when it's reworded, and it often uses statement-based, assertion-reason and match-the-following formats. Highlight definitions, exceptions, dates, data and diagram labels. These details are what MCQs are built from.

Language paper (English)

Most of this paper is reading comprehension, plus vocabulary and verbal ability. Board English literature preparation helps only partly. Daily reading from October onward is the only reliable method, because comprehension speed builds over months.

General Aptitude Test (GAT)

Prepare for it only if your target programmes require it. Check the university's subject mapping first. If you need it, it's the one paper where board preparation gives you nothing, so it needs its own fixed weekly slots from October.

5 Mistakes Class 12 Students Make With CUET 2027 Preparation

  1. Postponing CUET until after boards. About a month is not enough to build speed, accuracy and RC from zero across five papers.
  1. Choosing subjects on the registration form. Subject choice depends on your target programme-college combinations. Decide it in October.
  1. Solving MCQs without a timer. Untimed practice builds knowledge. CUET also tests speed.
  1. Counting mocks instead of analysing them. One mock with a full error analysis is worth more than three without one.
  1. Neglecting board marks. Class 12 results can affect eligibility. A plan that sacrifices boards for CUET is a bad plan.

Already Passed Class 12? A Note for Droppers

If you're taking a drop year for CUET 2027, you don't have the board conflict. You do have a different risk: twelve unstructured months. Drishti CUET's CAMPUS Batch is for repeat aspirants and droppers preparing for CUET 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I prepare for CUET 2027 and Class 12 boards at the same time?

Yes. CUET domain papers are based on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus, so board preparation covers most of the content. The extra work is format practice: timed MCQs with negative marking, plus the language paper and GAT if your course requires it.

2. When should I start CUET 2027 preparation?

October–November 2026 is the ideal time for Class 12 students. Board pressure is still moderate, and there is time to lock subject choices before registration, which opened in early January in the 2026 cycle.

3. Is NCERT enough for CUET 2027?

For domain subjects, NCERT Class 12 is the core text and covers most of what is tested. NCERT alone doesn't build exam speed, though. You need timed MCQ practice and previous year papers alongside it. NCERT doesn't cover the language paper or GAT.

4. How many hours a day should a Class 12 student study for CUET?

From October to December, roughly 60–75 minutes on school days and 3–4 hours on holidays is sustainable when CUET practice uses chapters you're already studying for boards. After boards, CUET becomes full-time.

5. Should I stop CUET preparation during board exams?

Don't stop completely. Reduce it. Taking one CUET mock in a subject on the evening of its board paper keeps your exam technique in practice without taking time from board revision.

6. Has NTA released the CUET 2027 notification or syllabus?

As of 19 October 2026, NTA has not released the CUET UG 2027 notification or Information Bulletin. In the 2026 cycle, the notification came on 3 January 2026. Check our CUET UG 2027 guide for updates.

7. How many subjects can I choose in CUET 2027?

In CUET UG 2026, candidates could choose up to 5 papers from 37: 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and the General Aptitude Test. The 2027 limit will be confirmed in the official Information Bulletin.

8. How can you prepare for CUET and board exams simultaneously?

For every chapter you study for your board exams, complete a timed set of 25 MCQs (within 30 minutes) during that same week. This helps build both speed and accuracy for CUET without requiring you to study a separate syllabus. Finalize your subjects by October–November, and during the board exam period, take a CUET mock test for the relevant subject on the evening before each board paper.
