Operation Shield 

• Mock drills were conducted in States and Union Territories adjoining the western border under Operation Shield. 
• Objective: To assess and strengthen the country’s readiness against possible external threats. 
• The drills simulate emergency scenarios like enemy air raids, drone intrusions, missile strikes, and mass evacuations. 
• Activities include silent and general recall of civil defence volunteers, evacuation drills, and emergency communication exercises.

Operation Spider Web

• Operation Spider Web was Ukraine’s most powerful drone strike during the war, targeting strategic Russian bomber aircraft at four air bases, including the Belaya air base in Siberia's Irkutsk region. 
• The operation was conducted by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) using first-person view (FPV) drones, also called Remote Person View (RPV), which transmit real-time video to the drone operator's goggles.

Mount Etna

• Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, has shown nearly continuous volcanic activity over the past ten years. 
• Mount Etna in Italy erupted violently, releasing toxic ash and smoke into the sky. 
• Mount Etna, located on Sicily’s east coast, covers 19,237 hectares of uninhabited land and is the highest island mountain in the Mediterranean, making it the world’s most active stratovolcano.

Operation Sindoor Memorial Park 

• Gujarat is building Sindoor Van, a memorial park in Kutch to honour Operation Sindoor and India's defence forces. 
• The park will have dense Sindoor plant forests and murals of Army, Navy, Air Force, and BSF. 
• It will also remember victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack from Gujarat. 
• During Operation Sindoor, over 600 missiles and drones were stopped in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Maiden visit of EUNAVFOR 

• Two European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) ships from Spain and Italy made their first visit to Mumbai (May 26–June 1, 2025), boosting India-European Union (EU) maritime ties. 
• The visit included joint exercises with the Indian Navy to enhance cooperation against piracy, smuggling, and Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. 
• It highlights India-EU commitment to regional peace, freedom of navigation, and a rules-based maritime order in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
